Two. Come September, that's how many kids we're going to have. Michelle is, in fact, pregnant again and Eastland is soon going to be someone's big brother. And speaking of Eastland, two is also how old he is. Two is also the number of doctor appointments we went to today. Incidentally, two is also the approximate number of feet of snow we got last weekend.
The ten week ultrasound appointment was this morning. The purpose of the early ultrasound appointments seems to primarily be to get a solid fix on a due date. They do this by measuring the tiny little alien fetus and comparing that number to their magic due date wheel. According to the doctors, the due date (and thus, the date of conception) that they achieve through this method is accurate within about 5 days. In our case, this gives us a due date of September 18th of this year. Looks like it's going to be a long hot pregnant summer. This afternoon, Eastland had his two year appointment. I typically like to go to all of his doctor's visits, but due to our schedules, Michelle was going to take him herself. That was, until she went outside to move her truck and found that it was frozen into a snow bank. We got so much snow last weekend that it is literally piled over six feet high in front of the house. We shoveled the cars out reasonably well, then I backed her truck back into its spot, stopping it with the bumper touching a huge pile of snow. Today, the sun did its thing, melted the snow on top of the pile, and it ran down beneath the truck and refroze. Stuck like glue, it was. So I got to go. Eastland hates the doctor's. We recently switched to a new pediatrician that's a little quieter and more comfortable. At the old office, Eastland would begin crying and pleading to leave the moment we would stop in the parking lot. He absolutely hated the entire experience. At the new office, he actually managed to have a nice time playing in the waiting room. He easily went into the back, got weighed, and even spent a bit of time in the exam room before he realized he should be upset. At which point the crying and pleading started. While he certainly wasn't enjoying the experience, it was at least better than the old office. All in all, things went well for a two year old. But the big news, as with virtually any pediatric appointment, was the measurements. At two years old, Eastland is 33.75 inches tall, 26.5 pounds, and has a big head. In percentiles, that's the 45th percentile for height, 25th for weight, and 90th for head size. Big Brain Baby. It's interesting how the second pregnancy differs from the first. At least thus far, instead of being able to focus on the pregnancy, itself and really bask in the glow as a couple, things are all business this time. We have a better idea what to expect this time around, and we've got Eastland to occupy our time. He's been an absolute pleasure for these past two years. I can barely wait for the next one. |
