Call it as you see it, but for my money, Chester County is as beautiful as anyplace in the country when the seasons change. We took Riley for a walk through a local park this afternoon and the woods are rapidly turning green. Everything is in bloom and the forests speak of a lush green summer this year.
We drove through some of the prettiest countryside on our way to and from the park. Everywhere we looked, meadows were filled with wildflowers of every variety, the dogwoods were on fire with white and red buds, and horses and cows wandered playfully against the rolling hills of Chester County. The forecast had called for rain. But with blue skies overhead and the sun diving in and out of fluffy little clouds, we saw no reason to stay couped up inside all afternoon. The landscape was caught, this afternoon, mid-season. Spring is nearing full bloom as the fields and forests all begin to come alive with color and life. As we walked along the wooded trail, a huge flock of crows sat overhead, calling out from the top of the regenerating forest canopy. All around us, the cawed and squawked with delight at the newborn world. There are few things more exhilirating than the change of seasons. The birds overhead clearly understood. As we drove by pasture after pasture, the sight of the blooming fields of flowers pressed up against the rolling green countryside just kept reminding me what a wonderfully temperate place this is to live. Other places may have more spectacular sights. Seasons may be less extreme in others. But for my money, Chester County is the place to be when the seasons change. |
