Easter Sunday
I got stuck in a traffic jam this morning coming home from the Acme. I needed to grab a few sundries for our Mother's Day festivities, so since the Acme is right up the street, I figured I'd zip right up there and back real quick. On the way home, I got stuck in a line of tractor trailers half a mile long. In Phoenixville, this can mean only one thing.

The Dogwood Festival is coming to town.

Traffic was backed up from the center of town all the way back to the supermarket with frustrated drivers and carnival trucks. One by one, each truck slowly pulled into the park and situated itself as traffic crawled past.

With a huge grin on my face and anxious with anticipation, I pulled out of the line of traffic onto our street, quickly parked the car and ran inside with my bags from the market.

"Guess what!" I announced as the door closed behind me, "I got stuck in traffic on the way home from the Acme!"

Michelle just looked at me oddly. "So?"

"So, I was stuck behind the carnival trucks. They're setting up right now." A sudden look of understanding crossed Michelle's face. I put the bags down on the table and began to unload the groceries. "Maybe we should walk up there after brunch."

Several hours later, after a delicious meal, entertaining conversation and a bonsai lesson, we leashed the dogs and wandered up into the park.

The entire park was abuzz with activity. Among the onlookers and pedestrians, crews of workmen moved feverishly assembling rides and setting up carnival booths. We walked the dogs among the half finished rides and concessions noting the location of our favorite attractions.

Over the course of a single day, our park has been transformed. For the next week, Phoenixville will become a nonstop party, culminating in a day long parade and festival next Saturday. All on a small town scale, of course.
