Easter Sunday
Pedro falls down the steps at least twice each day. He's still a tiny kitten and hasn't quite mastered the art of patience. So in his hurry to get from floor to floor, he often gets moving a bit faster than necessary and down he tumbles.

He generally falls from the attic in two large thumps. He times the first few steps properly, then apparently skips a few, whacks down hard, skips a few more, and hits the bottom. We hear this from bed in the evening as we're settling down for the day.

When he falls down the stairs to the first floor, he seems to hit every one in rapid succession as if in a roll. Typically, he tumbles down these stairs when playing with the dogs, either in the morning or in the evening when we're on the second floor.

I've never seen him fall personally, though I've heard him numerous times. Michelle has only seen him once coming down from the attic. He took the first two stairs ok, then bounced twice as he rotated airborne down the remaining ten.

Once he hits the bottom, he generally stumbled around for a bit in a disoriented stagger. A few shakes later, and he bolts off to hide and check for any damage, all of us, Michelle, me and the dogs, looking on in bewildered amusement.

Don't get me wrong. If Pedro were a kid, or even a dog, I would probably be concerned about all these tumbles he takes. But let's face it, he's a cat in training so these rolls down the steps have got to be good practice for all those future falls from the top of shelves, cabinetry, and perhaps even trees one day.

It's truly amazing how cats, even as young kittens, toss themselves around and fall off of things. Pedro is constantly climbing and jumping things. He tries to walk on the edge of anything he can fit his paws on. At this point in his life, he's still trying to find his balance and explore his limits. More often than not, he exceeds his abilities and sends himself flying.

In time, I'm certain he'll discover himself and fall less frequently. But for now, I'm just thankful we don't have a headboard he can fall from. Otherwise, we might never get any sleep.
