Several months ago, the notice went out on the Net that LucasArts Entertainment was giving away *FREE* Posters promoting Star Wars in anticipation of Episode 1. Immediately, I jumped on the bandwagon, picked up my phone and dialed the 800 number. I left my name and address on the automated system, then sat back and waited the 6-8 weeks it would take to arrive. A spot was cleared on my wall for the standard 17x22 or even 22x34 movie poster. What arrived was such a piece of uninspired crap, that even though it was sent to me for free, I feel ripped off for spending the time to make the call. A standard 8.5x11 sheet of glossy paper printed with a mediocre illustrated collage of Star Wars memorabilia.
So I'm now waiting to see who they sold my name to and how much more crap I'm going to get in the mail for ordering this poster. It's scams like this that make people distrust and dislike products and brands. Don't call a glossy sheet of letter-sized paper a "poster" and then expect your customers to have any faith in you whatsoever after they recieve it.
My faith is shaken, and my interest in the new Episode of Star Wars is less than ever. It's going to be an over-hyped disappointing special effects glamour filled spectacle. The lack of imagination and heart put into this promotional poster can only carry over to the larger projects in the studio. Just as they threw something together to appease their audience and collect names for resale and marketing purposes, so will they toss together some over-hyped piece of shit for the next Star Wars movie.
I can only hope they prove me wrong with the actual movie, since they're not showing me any dedication at this point.
